Information that stays on your phone

Your reading progress, learned names, saved passages, selected city and settings are stored only on your phone. They are never sent to us or to any other server. Deleting the app deletes all of them.

Location

Location access is optional. If you allow it, your location is used only on your phone to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. If you don’t, you can pick your city from the list and the app still works.

When you tap “Use my location”, Apple’s map service is used to find your city’s name; when you search for a city, it is used to show results. These are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. Bismillah does not receive or store this information.

Anonymous usage statistics

To improve the app, anonymous usage information is collected with Google Firebase Analytics: app opens, which parts of the app are used (e.g. opening the Qibla screen, sharing a card, how many of the daily passages are read), whether notification options are on or off, app language, phone model and iOS version. Google derives an approximate country and city from your internet (IP) address; the IP address itself is not stored.

This information is not linked to your name, email or any other identity, is not used for advertising or tracking, and is never sold. Your selected city, your location, your saved passages and the texts you read are not sent. You can turn collection off at any time in the app under Settings → Sources and licenses → Anonymous usage data. How Google processes this data: Firebase privacy information.

Qur’an recitation

When you tap “Listen” in the Qur’an tab, the recitation audio is streamed from EveryAyah.com. As with any internet connection, your phone shares its internet (IP) address with that site. Bismillah sends no other information to it. The Qur’an text and translations are stored on your phone; reading needs no internet.

Notifications

Prayer time, daily reminder and holy day notifications are prepared on your phone. No server is used to send them. You can turn them off at any time in the app’s Settings or in your phone’s settings.

Sharing

When you share a passage, the image card is created on your phone. You decide whom and with which app to share it.

This website

This website counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify or track you. It only gives us totals such as page views, country and device type.

Children

Bismillah does not collect identifying personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page and the date above will be updated.
